A very good Regency Period Mahogany Gentleman’s Press attributed to Gillows of Lancaster, the arched, Tuscan inlaid pediment with a nulled band above two flame figured panelled doors enclosing sliding trays, the base with two half width and two full width drawers, the whole raised on turned tulip shape feet.

Attribution: See “Masterful Marquetry and Majestic Mahogany” by David Harvey, chapter six, pp24 to 29 for an example of this model with the arched Tuscan pediment signed Thomas Atkinson who worked for Gillows during the late 18th and early 19th. centuries and dated May 1st. 1811

Christie’s 8th. July 1999 Lot 139 for a Gillows Breakfront Bookcase with the same Arched Tuscan pediment to the centre section.
