A superb Chippendale Period carved Mahogany Gainsborough armchair, the camelback flanked by arms with upholstered elbow pads and carved terminals raised on carved scrolled uprights, the seat above a rococo foliate carved frieze and raised on correspondingly carved French cabriole legs terminating in scrolled feet.

The exquisite carving on all the Mahogany show parts of the frame is an important indication of the outstanding quality of this rare example. Chairs like this are known to have been made by Thomas Chippendale for his most important commissions.
